My Current Jewellery Staples

I'm not normally one to go crazy with jewellery. Maybe a pair of earrings every now and then, or a chunky neon piece to help pull together an LBD. But in the last couple of months I've been devoted to a few of the same pieces, and they've become things I've worn on a daily basis. I seem to go for minimal decoration, after all, it's the little things isn't it?

Lemon and Chilli Tempura Prawns

After having seafood linguini along the Italian coast this August, Ive been dying to perfect a seafood snack of my own. Routing around in the cupboard proves that I did not have enough for a big fancy three course meal, but somehow I managed to whip up this... Prawn Tempura, the batter uses only 5 ingredients and is probably one of the most addictive dishes I've ever made. Here's my recipe, after a few attempts, I think I've finally mastered my own lemon and chilli tempura prawns!
450g Peeled Prawns
70g Plain Flour
60ml Cold Water
1 Egg
Juice of Half a Lemon
1/4 teaspoon chilli powder
  1. Whisk ingredients together in a medium bowl until the batter is smooth. The key to a light crispy batter is to keep the batter cold, so use ice cold water or refrigerate for 30 minutes before frying. 
  2. Now's the bit I got wrong for the first attempt. Pour enough frying oil into the pan to fill 1 inch of the bottom and use the highest possible heat, waiting for a rolling boil. I didn't wait for the oil to heat up enough before dunking my first prawn, and it ended up a soggy mess! 
  3. Dip each prawn in your batter and use a large slatted serving spoon to lower them into the water. Each prawn should take up to a minute to fry, and will be golden brown when done. Be very careful as the pan is likely to spit. Retrieve the cooked prawns and place on a sheet of kitchen towel to absorb any left over oil. 

I served mine with a bed of avocados, and drizzled with a sweet chilli sauce, although on their own or with a little soy sauce could also work great.

How to make the perfect christmas hot chocolate


With winter sweeping across the UK, this month has seemed like the perfect excuse to crawl back to bed and hibernate for a while. I think the reason I love the winter weather so much is because it's a reason to not go out. Thick duvets and microwave pizzas? Yes please. Trying to be a bit proactive, I've been playing around with a few hot chocolate recipes, and have made what is probably the best homemade hot chocolate recipe ever, using real chocolate. 

To quote Buzzfeed "The secret is to use really great chocolate, and not much else."

Vegetarian Lunch at The Gate, Angel

Saturday 21st November marked my dad's 57th birthday. To celebrate in Dad's true vegetarian style, we visited The Gate restaurant in Angel, about a 20 minute bus journey from King's Cross. I was a little apprehensive of going all-out veggie for an afternoon. (I'm a real sucker for a spag bol, a BBQ burger or a nice meaty burrito.. Oooo..) But I gritted my teeth and knuckled down, and have to say I rather enjoyed it.

Starter

A selection of starters, including pickled carrot, mustard seed potato cakes, smoked tofu and quiche. Deliciously light, but the bursts of flavour took me back a bit. Absolutely fell in love with the potato cakes, and the mustard gives the ensemble a raunchy kiss.

How to Make Salted caramel cookies ♥

One way I've been treating myself this week has been to cook up a few treats. Does anyone else agree that a few home made cupcakes can really cheer you up on a rainy day? 
I flicked through some of my favourite recipe books (seriously this book is amazing, its been in my family for 10 years. Click here to see it). But in the end I turned to my favourite Youtube Food channel - 'Sorted Food.' If you haven't watched any of their vids, they feature 4 lovely (very lovely) British lads who manage to cook up some amazing desserts and the odd experimental piece too. Anyway, one of favourite videos is their caramel cookies, in an awesome photographic style. (Click here to watch it, you wont regret it)

How to Escape London | Forest Walks


With the awkward British weather, it's difficult to predict a day. I visited the cinema on a day that turned out to be baking hot, and then went to go read in the garden moments before a sudden down pour; rip Kindle. However my Dad and I decided to grit our teeth, and head towards epping forest for a bit of a trek. We managed to get across about..... 400 metres of the 6,000 acres of land, so you know, we basically conquered it. And at no point what so ever did we have to ask a trio of lovely elderly ladies for the directions back to the carpark. Nope not at all.

One thing I loved about the forests was how unexplored everything felt. We'd walk through a thicket of trees and be presented with a beautiful little lake filled with ducks, a strange winding path or even the odd abandoned teepee made from logs. I honestly felt as if I was stepping onto fresh snow, and that once I had left one space, it would vanish.

Weekly Round-Up

How to eat healthier: Breakfasts

In an attempt to eat healthier, I have decided to start cooking some more nutritious meals. Breakfast is the hardest for me. Not only am I (definitely) not a morning person, but I'm lactose intolerant, so the normal yoghurt pot is out of the window, and the milk and cereal combination doesn't work for me as well, I hate cereal to be frank. So here I am finally making an effort to knock up a filling, healthy, vitamin rich breakfast. Enjoy!

Secret Garden Party 2015

You may have noticed that my blog has been deserted for the last week. (sorry x1000 for not being organised enough to schedule posts, been such a busy bee..!) But I have a valid excuse... I was working at the amazing Secret Garden Party Festival. Filled with tents, firewalks, bars, hot tubs, spas, massages, tarantulas and even paragliders, the end of July is by far my favourite time of year. I managed to take a few pictures when I wasn't on shift, which was (unfortunately) before and after the event. Enjoy!

Housesitting Part 2: How to Achieve a Modern Living Room


If you've read my update post you will already know that I have had to travel around England a little bit, so unfortunately regular blogging has been compromised. This afternoon, I was sitting in my auntie's living room: black and white, sharp clean shapes, coordinated furniture... and it just clicked. Time for a housesitting interior design post: Part 2.

Why you have to visit London's Olympic Park

As a londoner, city life can be a bit hectic. A city that never sleeps leaves little left to be desired, so taking a breather can feel impossible. However, based inbetween 4 boroughs (Tower Hamlets, my hometown Hackney, Newham and Waltham Forest) is the olympic park. Yes its not 2012, but that didn't stop me nosing around its new, beautiful 'Queen Elizabeth' park.

If you're like me, and you've spent the last couple of days outside, you are sure to have notice that it got slightly hotter... 35 degrees of scorching heat actually. And with all this heat, comes three massive struggles:
  1. Lack of energy
  2. Excess of sweat
  3. Lack of hydration. (thanks, sweat.)

Beauty: Fire Opal Earrings

The other day I was scrolling through my social feed and came across 'Fire Opal' earrings. They looked stunning, a round stone set in brass, with hints of gold, indigo, pearl and pink. Naturally, I presumed a stone like this would come with a very wealthy price tag, but none the less clicked onto the link anyway. For once, I was pleasantly mistaken. £16 for a pair of Pink Fire Opal earrings, I could hardly believe my luck! So, as I'm sure most of you would in this situation, I started to leave little hints for my friends, hoping for a birthday present that would replace socks or the non-refundable gift of a warm hug. I snapped the site, with a clear view of the link, mentioned something about birthday gifts, said I didn't have many nice pairs of earrings... I was (to quote Mr Ryan Reynolds, The Proposal) as subtle as a gun. 

So here I am, feeling rather spoiled, (10 days post-hinting) with a camera roll full of up close shots of my delicious new pair of Pink Fire Opal earrings, and still pouring the Internet for a new birthday hint... Enjoy
